I heard that they are playing together (i'm assuming it's for an afterparty) during the festival weekend... what do you kids know about this rumor?

Regardless, I seem to recall the last time someone blasted Jeff Mills around this time on the board, it turned into a bloodletting.

No worries, we're both right.  Wink

I agree with you on alot of shit, and your memory is not faulty; the last Mills convo was a bloodbath;  but the point of contention was all about that 5th Avenue set...which was brilliant...it was that last Spaceman on Earth or whatever the fuck it was tour... versus the many many many other crap sets Mills has foisted on the people of Detroit after leaving this fair city.

It's like one or two (The Rooster Tail Techno Museum set being the other) versus all the other shitty sets which just leads to the local conclusion, probably misplaced, that he just sucks now.

Does he? I dunno. I'd rather gamble on an afterparty than gift him a headline slot at the fest, to find out.

You know it's there if he wants it....seemingly. ...does he?

Again, a themed party, at a dope venue, would probably make it all better. "Detroit: 2012 Awaits" or some shit at the Penobscot. All original live shit. In an art deco environment, with dope sound, strong drinks, and the right light and a/v. That would fix Jeff mills reputation in detroit. Some Metropolis Helghast shit.

Some retread "The Wizard" set on the Main stage Memorial Day in the 7pm daylight with bunk sound with some glowed out ravers grooving to the 15th version of "The Bells" in the weekend? no thanks.

I've reached a whofuckingcares level of appreciation at this point.

i wouldn't mind seeing Garnier anywhere anyhow at any price, tho, no question.

Ah. I didn't mean to seem pointlessly contrary. Guess this fight is a bit of an eyesore. I was actually referred to the luv from the Mills forum. Even then, people were critical of his sets (not unreasonably so, either).

BUT could anyone argue with a Mills live set? I'd love to see him pull out his studio (and a few musicians) onto a stage and do an improv.

Others on that list (just Detroit, the entire list is tooooo long):
Anthony Shakir
Sean Deason
Moodyman

I don't know about Moodyman. He stunk it up with his band the last time he played. Maybe he would be better off doing a dj set.

I would like to see Deason or Shake do it live, that would be interesting.

Although Jeff Mills did play a crap set at DEMF in 2007, I saw him in Lyon last May and it was one of the best techno sets I've ever heard in my life. My jaw was on the floor the entire time. Plus, I've been dying to hear Laurent Garnier in a proper setting and I think this will be it

If this party happens, I know where I'll be.

His recent two sets in Chicago have been way better than any other time I've heard him in the past 6 years.  I think he's finally realized that he doesn't have the "Wizard" physical skill set anymore and is concentrating on smoother blends now.  He still played great tracks, just without the frenetic sloppy mixing, and he still brought the 909 heat.

I saw Mills in November in Fuse, and it was monotonous and boring for 4 hours.  He played with his 909, and almost singlehandedly killed my passion for any noise on that machine by the time he was done.

thats because a retarded and crippled monkey could play better stuff on a 909 in tap mode than mills.

IMO!!!!
