anyone here bet on professional sports online? i'm a major fan of mma, and recently stumbled across this great blog: ufcjunkie.com, which had a super informative article on betting ( [[ no lurker link viewing ]][[ please clone up or clone in ]] ) and got me thinking about placing some money on some upcoming UFC's... the article recommended these two sites: bodog.com and betcris.com.. i'm still checking everything out, but i wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with these sites, winning and COLLECTING on money won, etc... i also need someone to give me a better explanation of odds-for example, here is the only line going for UFC 67 from Betcris: TRAVIS LUTTER +320 ANDERSON SILVA -380 basically, in the future i want to possibly place a few $100 bets on certain fights.. so lets say i bet $100 right now on Silva to win, what do i get if he wins or loses? and vice-versa, what if i bet $100 on Lutter to win, what do i get if he wins or loses? and also, is $100 to low of an amount to place a bet? does that even matter? any help would be appreciated.. p.s. Travis Lutter's going to get his head knocked off by Anderson Silva!

lol - I didn't know you were into MMA, keith. We should get together for the fight next Saturday. I have no experience with sports betting - but my understanding of a moneyline is this: the +/- rating expresses how much money you have to wager in order to win $100. Or rather - it's an indication of how much money you have to risk betting on the favorite (Silva) in order to win $100, and how much you stand to earn by risking $100 on the underdog (Lutter) So, let's say you pick Silva to win (a pretty safe bet ) - but you're going to have to put up $380 of you hard-earned money. If Silva wins, they pay you $100. If Silva loses, then you pay them the $380. And vice versa - if you pick Lutter to win, you only have to bet $100. If Lutter wins, you get $320. And if he loses, then you lost the $100. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong - but I think that is how the moneyline works in sports betting. I have no idea what, if any, sports betting websites are reputable (or legal?). I'm sure they all rake in a cut of your take regardless, although I'm not quite sure how that works. I have some close friends back in NY who became bookies - I could put you in touch with them if you'd like. (trust em with my life). But more importantly, Ketih... how badly would you like to see a matchup between Chuck Liddell Anderson Silva right now? And who would you pick to win? (fuck weight classes - let's take it back to the old school)

keith i would use sherdog.com as a reference on articles & whats new. way better then bodog. as for betting im more then positive the way travis explained it, is the rules. in your scenario the odds would be 10:38 on the favorite (silva) & 32:10 on the underdog (lutter). i would rather see wanderlai silva vs chuck liddell. but crocop's debut in the UFC is what im really irked about. & once gsp is all healed & ready to go, thatll be some good fighting too.

Hmmmm.... maybe. If it stays on their feet. If Lutter takes Silva down, though, it'd be a totally different fight. I'm not totally convinved by Silvas last two victories. In the first case... Chris Liebing was way too cocky and caught some stupid fists a less certain, hungrier fighter would never let happen. In the case of Rich Franklin, his ribs got busted early and that's why Silva was able to lock onto him so quickly. I think I probably still would have given Silva that fight, but this one? Travis Lutter is a completely different kind of fighter and nowhere near as head strong. If Silva doesn't take him out early, it might not play to his advantage. I say Silva's going to win this by TKO in the third. It's going to be one of those where there's not too much action because Silva will be using his striking as a method of keeping Lutter from forcing a takedown, but I don't expect Silva's going to try to take the fight right to him.

Couple of things ... I used to wager on bodog fairly frequently I can say that they are legit. However, and I'm sure you could find more detail with some quick googling, the .gov has been laying the smackdown on the companies that process the payments for the betting sites. I was just talking to my uncle who is big into online poker, and he was saying that everyone who didn't move their money out of netelller recently have all their $$ trapped in limbo. I would be hesitant to place a wager right now, because I don't have a clear picture of how the hammer is falling. From the top of [[ no lurker link viewing ]][[ please clone up or clone in ]] neteller's faq Effective Immediately
Due to recent US legislative changes and events, effective immediately, US members are no longer able to transfer funds to or from any online gambling sites.
All US members will continue to be able to use their NETELLER e-wallet account to safely transfer funds to and from non-gambling merchants and are not required to close their account or withdraw their funds.
No similar notices on bodog's page that I can find, but I can't imagine that they'll be able to dodge it forever. Who knows, you might be able to move your money in or out in time, or it might get trapped in costa rica.

crocop is a fucking madman, that is all.
I hope his UFC debut is more impressive than Heath Herring's. That fight was boring and I have to wonder if White might just can him real quick for not having a ground game.

thanks guys!!! a few things-i don't know if i read the replies here wrong, but i assumed that online betting and transfer of money won or loss is legal in the US..maybe i was being naive, not sure. regardless, thanks Trav for the odds information and m on the betting feedback..huge help. thoughts: Lutter's ground skills are possibly overatted and i still think Silva's going to defend his belt in a very brutal and quick style....one might think he got an "easy" win over Leben-maybe Chris shouldn't have been rushing in like an angry gorilla with his chin unprotected. Franklin got owned plain and simple, and he's a real big boy!-shit, I was pretty suprised to see him get manhandled like that though!... since i don't have cable i haven't seen the Heath Herring fight, but read that it was really boring-that's really too bad now that he's fighting in America. I think Heath Herring's really entertaining as a fighter, although he's gotten his ass handed to him bad in a few of his last fights...then again, he's faced the top fighters in the world, arguably at their peak. Cro-Cop and Quinton Jackson are going to do wonders for the UFC, especially Jackson. i'm going to review his beating of Liddell in Pride so i get the picture in my mind of just how bad Chuck's going to get his ass beat the second time around....and even if he doesn't, it's going to be MAJORLY entertaining! and Cro-Cop? as was stated earlier, everyone's counting down the minutes before a high kick connects and someoene leaves on a stretcher...

I'm ordering it on PPV. Which I NEVER do. This is the one thing I can actually get my g/f to tolerate.
Football, basketball, Black Sabbath, Public Enemy, Ghost In The Shell and beer drinkin' with the boys? Best way to chase her out of the room or keep her from attending something I wanna do.
UFC? She digs seeing two guys roll around on the floor. All I have to put up with is the obligatory, "They should kiss," joke once during the entire evening and I get to watch violence without interruption.
I'm not picking Lutter for that fight, but I do think it will go at least two full rounds.
