/.start political yap.\

Let me begin by saying every year Nefarious does this to provide the festival goers entertainment from the local community.  This is not about making money or selling anything or branding an image, this is simply putting my money where my mouth is in terms of supporting and promoting the local scene.  The festival always passes the local people over.  Every year we appeal to them to allow us to provide an official area at little or no cost to the festival - all we want is the official space and we can handle the rest (lineup, sound, etc).  Every year Nefarious and other local community organizations are blatently ignored.  What doesn't seem to be understood is that WE (not soley Nefarious, but the other promotion teams and supporters) are the force that keeps the electronic music community thriving in the Motor City.  But instead of grumbling and holding grudges or publicly bad mouthing the festival team, we just continue to do our own thing in a vendor booth down by the river, and hope that someone will take notice and remember us for the next year.  All we ask for is a chance.

I also want it to be known that this year the booth is co-sponsored by DJ Supply, whom have been providing the festival with top quality equipment and sound and support for the five years the festival has been in existence.  This year DJ Supply reached out to the local community thru us by providing Nefarious another booth through their contract with the festival.  Hats off and great gratitude to Mark, Drew and Craig at DJ Supply for acknowledging our efforts and supporting us as Nefarious continues to showcase and support the Detroit electronic music community.

/.end political yap.\

Of course, who gives a fuck about that stuff, you want to know the lineup and timeslots.  First off, when you see "TBA", it does NOT mean that is an available slot.  99.99% of time it has been offered and is awaiting confirmation before I list the name.  So keep checking this thread.  If there are slots available, I will or already have contacted you and am awaiting your confirmation, simple as that.

Sound has been provided by DJ Supply and technical assistance by Pat Rodemeyer and his clan.

DJs:  First off, thank you for agreeing to play.  However, your playing the booth has nothing to do with the official festival, so unfortunately, if you don't have some sort of hookup, you will have to pay to get into Hart Plaza.  The setup in the booth is as follows:  2 Tech 1200s, Vestax PMC-55 Mixer, 2 CDJ 100s, monitors on each side, etc.  The needles on the decks will be brand new Ortofon Pro-S (Blue Tips), but if you have a specific preference, you must bring them yourselves.  If you are using Final Scratch or a laptop, etc, please do not disturb the current dj that is playing.  You will have to take time off of your slot to setup and breakdown whatever gear you have.  I will store your records and gear up to two hours before your slot and one hour afterwards.

For everyone else: As you know the booths are small, and once we setup the dj rig, etc, the space is even smaller.  The booth will NOT be a storage place nor a lounge nor a rain shelter.  No, you may not leave your purse, backpack, cooler, coat, umbrella, children, weapons, bongs, or anything else with me while you go out and have fun.  Wives and girlfriends will gladly be accepted, of course.  However, if you don't want to hold on to the stuff, don't bring it!  Also, there will be coolers containing various beverages.  Sorry to be a dick, but last year was out of control with people coming in and out of the booth and helping themselves to whatever refreshments we had saved for ourselves.  While it's known that I have a very giving persona, sometimes to the point of being a pushover, this year guns will be drawn on anyone attempting to raid the "stash".  If you want something, just ask.  Most likely you'll get it. Smiley

For sale in the booth will be the official DetroitLuv T-Shirt (I don't have a prototype image to put up right now, but I will soon) featuring Trench's new logo.  Shirts will be black and available in L-XXXL.  They will be $20, with $2 of that being donated to DetroitLuv/Nefarious.

Also available will be the official release of the dLuvRecordings "Cloned EP" (DLUV001EP), featuring Brian Kage.  The records will cost $7 each.

I am currently working on providing a live feed from Hart Plaza so that the booth can be web broadcasted.  It all just depends on the availability of wireless internet from the booth.  Last year there was a weak signal floating around the Plaza, which was giving out DHCP addresses and allowing internet throughput.  However, I think this signal was coming from either the Sony truck or the underground Media area that Motormouth and other vendors were running.  So keep checking back for more info.

Other than that, this weekend looks to be the best we've seen since 2000.  Have a great time out there and be safe, and enjoy the booth, the festival, and of course the real part of the festival: the after-parties.

peace
-markd

addendum:  I also want to thank Drew at Big Detroit Parties for assisting with some of the outside talent.

Mark, don't leave out Drew over at the Warren store.  He was the originator of the idea.  I was just the one that called you about it.

Laura Hardgroove was originally in the Women on Wax troupe and the PH Concept crew, and now appears courtesy of Soiree Records (Derrick Thompson's label).

Her style is mostly house and smooth techno.  You should like it.

This year is looking to be our best year yet! Vince and I just spent a few hours making a canopy rig to rival the shelter JR built for last years use, but not quite as fancy. please take into consideration what MD said about space and storage. Every year its an ongoing battle to find a place for us to sit and keep watch, and I'd like it to be a little easier on us this year. That booth is pretty much our home for 72 hours, in fact, JR and I both spent a night by ourselves in Hart Plaza to make sure our equipment was safe overnight. The reason I say this is because it is our little home away from home, please treat it as such, and respect the space. We're putting locks on the coolers, because last year i spent over $200 on beer and ran out halfway through monday. I love all of you guys, even thought some of you probably don't know me, but it's enough money just to run the booth, we cant afford to get you all drunk and well fed for 3 days. That's the end of my rant, I hope MD doesnt mind that I'm crawling out of my hole to speak out, but every year its the same song and dance every year and we want this year to run as smoothly as possible.  i look forward to seeing you all this weekend!
